Best Wishes to you for the Yule Tide Season!

Best Wishes to you for the Yule Tide Season!

I think what wove the fabric of my soul to be this way, were all the treasures in the victorian houses in my neighborhood growing up.

The old widows faded away in a back room while I played with my childhood friend (who grew up to be Jared Gold the amazing fashion designer extraordinaire. Only reason I mention this detail is because I wanted you to picture my friend as being a boy.)

Jared's Unique Fashion Design
Video

We had these amazing houses full of cast off costumes, toys, antiques, art supplies, tree houses, 50's cars, trunks of old pirate treasures, and over grown gardens with rusty swing sets full of flowers and raspberries and ghosts.

My 2016 Calendar! For sale now on Etsy. Click here!

All of this to ourselves. The old ladies were always asleep and didn't want to be bothered. One of them had nine children all grown and gone leaving us afternoon hours to dress in 20's clothes and play board games from the 60's (Mystery Date and Operation) Bobsie Twins mysteries, 1940's boy scout manuals, and mad libs.

He would play the white shiny lacquer baby grand like a champ in the gigantic play room, with acres of green carpet as a velvety lawn stretching out beneath a chandelier and arched ceiling.

We ate home made apple pie off plates printed with pictures of silent movie stars, presidents and the state of Idaho.

There was an all pink room with pink curtains even a pink rotary working phone.
We got in a fight in that room, I threw scissors at him.  It had something on the wall that said Babes in Toyland, I think it was a 78 record maybe? A kids story.  (Not the 90's punk girl band! Ha!)

I got a strange flesh colored dress from the closet in that room, the frock was printed with ballerinas and grey roses and had big cloth covered buttons. I wore it until high school and it ripped to ribbons.

There were secret rooms and closets leading into other rooms, one closet had a small circular window and had been converted into a perfect tiny doll house / play room.

If I could have one day like that back again I would cry from happiness. That it was even my childhood at all is an amazing blessing.

I've wanted to go to House on the Rock for decades, I hear it has this same kind of feeling.
House on the Rock

Through my art and dreams all I ever do over and over again is try to process or recreate the atmosphere and the beauty.

Nature is hyper real and perfectly beautiful.
Dolls live in a super unreal surrealistic hyperfection world of fantasy.
When one is raised in these two worlds anything else is stifling ugly and tedious in its mundaneness.

Happy Dollidays 2016 Witch Calendar Now on Etsy, Cobain Doll Hair Pulled!

Dame Darcy 2016 Witch Calendar

Now on Etsy!

Wow!!

Cobain Hair Pulled from Auction:
 A Hair Raising Experience!

A comic about the hair

In Victorian days it was common to make a memento from the locks of hair of a loved one, both living and deceased. Jewelry and dolls were made with human hair, and are collected to this day.

Many people have sent me human hair to make dolls for cake toppers for weddings and to honor a deceased loved one.
The doll
As gothic Lolitas influenced by Victoriana, Courtney and I shared the same love of Victorian dolls. I care about Frances, Courtney, and the rest of the Cobain family very much and Courtney was a dear friend to me. I did not do this out of disrespect to them.

I auctioned the hair to support my up-coming tour and because I believe in Karma and magic I am donating a percent of proceeds to a suicide prevention fund. I think Kurt would understand the importance of touring to promote art.

Artist Shoutout!

Some of my favorite up and coming artists!
I've always felt like a mash up of Rapunzel trapped up in my Victorian artist attic endlessly drawing in a sea of addictive ink and some kind of Pirate Mary Poppins. Like a nun that married Adam Ant instead of Jesus. Fairy God Mother to all those who were misrepresented and misunderstood.

You all and the diversity that you bring to the world inspire me most to make the art that I do. I'm so happy to see the nitch-genres that were once considered outsiders becoming more accepted by mainstream society.

When I was goth (first Death Rock in the 80's) I was really what is now Lolita and so happy the scene  has turned this way, also the trans/bi/gay LBGT community , comic book geeks , punks , and freaks  and just everyone who has the dark fairytale whimsical sensibility and crave and create an alternative reality.  We all embody the Goddess as well as Mother Nature.

I reach out to you and thank you for doing the same for me.  Your lovley letters of support and your own beautiful inspired art means so much. So here I'd like to share with you some up and coming artists who are my friends and interns!

in a matter of astounding animated minutes.

The Goal We're Working Toward
With your help we will get there!

Surfer Girl with See Through Bikini
by Jim Warren
To live completely sustainably and have proactive ocean conservation be part of daily life. As a child I was constantly concerned about animals going extinct, and plastic in the ocean as well as personal survival. I'm constantly working towards an ideal reality where my income allows me the freedom to live and create as an environmental activist to turn all my skills towards
serving the Goddess.
Mermaid & Dolphin by Marco Rivero
Though it hasn't been easy being a cartoonist mermaid in this landlubber world having to create products of consumption and market my own heart as art. But, it's ultimately been rewarding because of the like-minded souls like you I've met along the way!

Stay Tuned For...

1) Lady Killers: Written by Tori Telfair. This is a graphic novel published by Harper Collins

2) Anything Is Probable: Written By Lisa Carver (we are planning a tour for East and West Coast as well as Europe in June and Halloween with Jessica Delfino and her new release, Lisa Carver, and Eliza Rickman. Gen from Psychic TV is interested as well as Kembra Phaler and others!)

3) The Tell Tale Heart Horror Classics: Seven Stories Press

4) Hi Jax & Hi Jinx Graphic novel and screenplay are now being pitched to producers and we have a director (Dawn Garcia) for the movie.

5) Two TV show pitches in the works: “Meat Cake”, based on the long running comic book series, and “Voyage of Temptress”, a new web comic series and TV concept.

In the next coming months!

Magic Blessings to you :)

Patreon/Meat Cake/Voyage of Temptress New York Premiere

^v^ Updates^v^

Hey you all! So happy to be back in touch :) My social media machine is now fixed and so much has happened! ^v^ ART ^v^

The Voyage of Temptress television pilot premiere (based on the web comic series of the same name) is happening at Jessica Delfino’s venue, The Unicorn, in Chinatown/Manhattan on Wednesday, June 24 at 8 p.m.!

Voyage of Temptress:

Join the Voyage of Temptress crew and cast off on a sea-going, mind-blowing adventure! Starring the same ladies of Meat Cake, the long running comic series by Dame Darcy along with other series such as Sirens, Sailors and Ghosts and many more, this mermaid tale is a new twist on the classic comic book series.

Voyage of Temptress is a surreal serial costume drama web comic (awaiting a publishing deal for a graphic novel). The video series is 22 minutes or television segments of 5 minutes and smaller to be placed across all social media platforms.

In both formats, the pirate crew of the renegade ship HMS Temptress search the Intracoastal Waterway near Savannah, Ga., looking for confederate gold that was stolen by pirates back in the 1700's from rich, rococo aristocrats.

This interactive television series is a blend of fairytale fantasy, costume drama, a sailing blog, instructional video and with a Dada surrealism intermingled with a pop culture dream scape.

Viewers can solve the clues that are given every episode on each island and vortex. They can also use cartoon treasure maps of the area shown online at www.DameDarcy.com and post their own speculations as to where the gold is, using the clues provided.

Clues will be buried in bottles on the subtropical islands seen in the video and when viewers with access to a boat that visit the Savannah, Ga., area (a national tourist hot spot), they can participate in finding the gold in real life!

This original concept and series allows for all kinds of multimedia and interactive social media. It crosses all boundaries and makes for a real-life adventure game in which visitors and Savannahians alike can participate.

Avast Mermatey! Join the crew of Temptress! All of Savannah (virtual and otherwise) is invited!

Patreon: The next best thing to faking my death

Hello dearest Darklings, loyal long-time Readers and Newbies alike.

^v^ UPDATES ^v^

Meat Cake comix is still going strong and Fantagraphics is going to publish a compilation graphic novel (400 pages plus!) to be released on the summer solstice (my b-day) in June 2016 entitled: Meat Cake Bible, which will be a prize for all Patrons upon release. I will update my Patreon page with the sketches and final drawings, video clips, photos and blogs of works in progress so you can keep in touch and see how I'm best utilizing your resources.

Meat Cake Bible will include previously released best of issues from 0-10 (from the 90's) along with an all new compilation of 11-17 (from the 2000's) in addition to never before seen comics! I will be working until June of next year for their completion and would love to continue my progress with another graphic novel after the release of Meat Cake Bible with Meat Cake issues 20-on until I have enough pages for another 100 page plus graphic novel.

Victorian Granny is also getting with the modern age :) I created a web comic series/TV video series/Mermaid Pirate adventure entitled Voyage of Temptress starring the cast of Meat Cake! It is in color and the format is cell phone compatible. The awesome and multi-talented crew of VOT created a pilot video now up on YouTube. This is currently being pitched as a TV series for Meat Cake to investors and producers.

Meanwhile, I'm working on constantly creating content and need a sustainable income in order to be able to focus and create properly.

I have lots of fun prizes (and am still running my long-time Etsy store!)

Not only am I extraordinarily good at shipping out art every week with a personal and gift wrapped flair (tracking numbers provided) but I also have a large variety of items. I will be able to release these items with more funding, like the back supply of graphic novels I can make available to the public, for instance the Jane Eyre release by Penguin or the Mermaid Tarot self-published deck which is extremely popular!

Also available are DD postcards, love letters and poems hand-written to you, Meat Cake stickers, gift boxes including framed original illustrations, dolls, spells, books signed to you or a loved one with hand-drawn illustrations, original pages and drawings from Meat Cake and otherwise, access to music and video classes I'm currently producing based on the sequential art curriculum I taught / lectured at colleges: How to create and publish comics.

New paintings as prizes for patrons!

A close-up of new paintings as prizes for patrons!

Other videos I will be producing for Patrons include: Teaching Raw Food/Vegetarian Recipes and How to Draw and Paint. Also currently in production is a Mermaid Tarot app for phones with an access code exclusive to Patrons!

As well as large fancy paintings for big prizes that took me weeks to produce, I am considering offering small talisman bottles containing a Victorian style lock of my real hair or a one-on-one Skype chat/tea party. To see it all or add yourself to my mailing list please go to www.damedarcy.com to get an idea.

DD original painting for patrons: Sea goddess sad about plastic in the ocean

... I've suffered for my art. Now it's your turn... Kidding! You know you love it!

Teaching:

All women have the nurturing gene. I'm doing this instead of being a cat lady because I'll never have kids. I worship the goddess and embody the goddess. I'm unable to join the Peace Corps right now but I can help the local kids at the women's safe shelter in their summer camp for Century 21 public school and the Telfair museum of art. Below are some images of sea themed ocean awareness art as well as a comic book class that the kids made. They really did a great job!

Special Thanks

I would also like to thank Carolyn Amanda and Andrew Beckstrom for all their help with this blog and my Patreon site! Check out Amanda's amazing photography and art!
